lovingj calls Thom Hartman Show to discuss Barack Obama

An interesting exchange between myself and Thom Hartmann regarding Barack Obama.

Nice job J...You really put this closeted Edwards paritan in his place and educated him about Barack's position on iran.

Re: lovingj calls Thom Hartman (none / 0)

Thom Hartmann is not a "CLOSETED" anything.

He has stated SEVERAL TIMES ON THE AIR that John Edwards is the only candidate that he has given money to, and if any of the Democrats get nominated, he will not only vote for them but work hard for them.

Some people, like you, just never know what they are talking about.

Re: lovingj calls Thom Hartman (none / 0)

Jaehood, you're way off base on this.  Thom Hartmann is great for the Democratic party in general and he's made no secret of the fact that he supports Edwards in the primaries.  He has also made it clear that he'll support the nominee (provided it isn't Gravel).  He's been fighting the good fight for a long time, and your criticism of him is misplaced.  Hartmann is entitled to support anyone he wants in the primaries, and I have no objection to that simply because he doesn't support my candidate.

Beautiful job, Jonathan... (2.00 / 2)

Thom gave you a nice amount of air time. And your point is the one that needs to keep being made...

Why keep acting suspicious about Obama's motives when his positions are no more "jingoistic" than any of the other major candidates.

It is again that irony of the Obama detractors that I've seen. Many seemed to have convinced themselves at some point that Barack Obama was an electable version of Dennis Kucinich -- only to be disappointed when they learn that he's been a consistently pragmatic and practical person for his entire public career.

Great job, LovingJ! (2.00 / 1)

Excellent and pretty accurate rebuttal on the Iran point. Three cheers!

Re: A Video Diary WOW (none / 0)

Speechless???

The ABC poll was a fluke.  It was an outlier poll.

One poll out of a gazillion -- months ago or recent -- that shows Obama leading doesn't say anything more than ABC wanting to create buzz with its poll.

Every other poll out of Iowa has shown Obama falling there.

The ABC poll was a fluke, and so are the ARG Iowa Polls that have had Clinton leading there even back last year when every other poll there had Edwards leading by 10...and yes, that includes the SC ARG poll that had Edwards in second place.  It's a fluke as well.

It is so amazing to me how people have accused the media of "spin" since Gore ran, but they don't believe they can get whatever poll results they seek at a given time.

When another poll out of Iowa shows similar movement for Obama there, then I'll be speechless.  C'mon, who are we kidding.

Re: A Video Diary WOW (none / 0)

The ABC poll may have been off (not be much - Iowa is tight, like the poll suggested), Obama has actually been moving up in Iowa recently (he had previously been stumbling).

I was actually listening live this morning and caught your call-in to the show. Although I love Thom Hartmann, thanks for setting the record straight for him and his listeners on Senator Obama!

Re: lovingj calls Thom Hartman Show (none / 0)

Before I even listen to it, let me quess what Thom Hartmann said.

Did he say that if Barack Obama gets the nomination he will vote for him and work hard for him...because for those who ALWAYS listens to his show, that's what he always says.

But he makes no bones about the fact that he agrees with John Edwards AND DENNIS KUCINICH on a lot more, or that he thinks that John Edwards would make a great President.

Now, let me go listen to someone fighting a battle that doesn't exist.

The Double Standard (2.00 / 1)

Go Jonathan!!!! We all have to make our voices heard. Even on the Randy Rhoades show. I was extremely disappointed with the fact that she was uncomfortable with Oprah's support of Obama. What confuses me is that I never heard her or anyone else say anything about the mega fundraisers and support Steven Spielberg has held for Hillary Clinton. The truth is that celebrities stomp for candidates all the time. Is there a double standard in the MSM? In my opinion yes and this has not been the first time there was a double standard. The double standard actually occurred when both Mr. Edwards and Mr. Obama were asked no it was demanded by the media to present healthcare plans while Mrs. Clinton is not. There were charges of empty suit all fluff and no substance against Mr. Obama. Where were her plans? I do believe she will finally present a healthcare plan unfortunately its about 7 months late after Mr. Edwards and 6 months after Mr. Obama's plan.

Excellent point. (2.00 / 3)

It is a serious issue and it makes all that much harder for quality candidates to get average voters to learn what they are really about.

Barack Obama and John Edwards both have been victims of the corporate media double standard.  However, Obama, in particular, gets hit extremely hard by the double standard mindset.

Specifics?

Experience?

Black enough?

They say he needs to stop attacking Hillary but they ignore the fact that she attacked him as "naive" on foreign policy.

Hell, I was extremely pissed when I listen to Bill Press several weeks ago filling in on the Ed Schultz show.  He was commenting on Michelle Obama's "clean your own house" comment and immediately assumed it was a jab at Hillary even though every caller called in and told him he was off base.  Then he throws in the new liberal Obama double standard by saying, "Whatever happen to the politics of hope?."

Friggin' annoying.  The politics of hope?  Its like they expect the guy to be a punching bag but not fight back attacks on his credibility, experience, or so called Blackness.  Give me a break.

I would love to see a no holds barred debate with two candidates at a time on issues because I am confident Obama could hold his own better than any (well maybe Kucinich and Obama would be a tough match up).

Obama's campaign (1.50 / 2)

Obama is not catching on. The one to blame for this is Obama and his campaign manager.  This isn't the fault of the MEDIA, bloggers, Thom Hartman,  or Bill Press for that matter. The Obama excitement is wearing off (i.e polls). Period. You can't resurrect something that's dying. There's no medicine to cure Obama ailing campaign. Not even Oprah.

Re: lovingj calls Thom Hartman Show (2.00 / 1)

The same folks that criticized Gore for being wooden and intelligent in 2000 and were same ones enamored with Gov GW Bush's simplicity and Texas twang. (Look at what their opinion has gotten us. Thank God before I joined the service I ignored them and voted for Gore. I have no guilt in my heart). These same morons are now going after Obama and Edwards with nicknames like Breck Girl and naive. I am talking about Maureen Dowd and the rest of the Washington crowd. Darn it I wish she would get out the beltway and try living here in good ole Tennessee. She probably wouldn't make it here anyway. My hang up with her is that she has also negatively commented on Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Obama. Her comments are strictly insider. See the Vanity Fair article. In my opinion Maureen Dowd is an absolute disgrace who belongs in the gossip, lifestyles and or comic pages of the New York Times. Her columns should be used to line bird cages. http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/featu res/2007/10/gore200710

Thom is smart but not wise (none / 0)

I'm so glad you got to say your peace, lovingj, and it sounds like you threw Thom off his game a bit too <g>.

I know lots of liberals love Thom but not I. Air America in general is much more pro-Hillary and pro-Edwards and decidedly tepid on Obama, to put it kindly. It really bothers me so I don't listen to AA as much anymore. I like Nova M Radio (streamed mostly) but some of Air America's DJs (Randi, Thom, Rachel) are there too, along with rabid Mike Malloy and very sharp and big-hearted Jeff Farias of Phoenix. Randi disappoints on Obama too.

I don't want a "liberal" talk show station that does not analyze and only stumps for the Dem Party, regardless of whether the Dem is DLC (like Clinton, Lieberman, Kerry, Gore, Edwards) and therefore more anti-minority, or not DLC like Obama (and Dean, Kucinich).

I reject entirely the corporate DLC Dixiecrat-appeasing wing of the Dem Party and I do want my country back, from lobbyists, 527s and PACs especially.

Thom lost me when he stumped his English-only voting ballot rhetoric. He waxed rhapsodic about his time (paid) in a European villa learning not only the language in six months but the dialect - gasp! - with a [paid] tutor in his home. He used this example from his own privileged life to compare the mostly uneducated immigrants from Latin America, Africa and Asia who come from countries where they're lucky if they earn $2/day, where their employers are multinational corporations, and which grant them no easy legal access to the U.S., and ask "Why can't they just learn English like I coped in German?" Duh.

He wanted me to believe that these immigrants can learn English as easily as he - a privileged white professional American with a U.S. passport who doesn't have to hold down a real job - learned his German language/dialect.

I'd love to have seen him as a Black/Native American Mexican from Vera Cruz (yes, that's the typical Vera Cruzano), in Germany with no profession or English, no education beyond primary school in Spanish, no money, no time after working the average 12-16 hour hard labor days most undocumented immigrants work. Think he'd have learned German in six months?

Would someone explain to me what's more against my interest as a U.S. daughter of Latino and black immigrants - Obama's insistence on negotiating with Iran and taking nukes off the table where they'd antagonize more than they'd "fix" things (his actual and most hard-held position on Iran against attacks right-and-left) OR Thom Hartmann's English-Only voting ballots? Hmmmm.

I think it's the "liberal" who claims such love for democracy as Thom does, but supports excluding citizens from voting. Remember, those translated voting ballots are for citizens only!
